Sometimes You Wish It Was A Nightmare

(6 Lormesta 5115: The Landing)

It was a lovely evening until a man walked into Helga’s. The stranger started the conversation with me by telling me I seemed familiar. Ummmhmmm, and I might look young, but that line wasn’t going to work with me. Thankfully, I was not alone, and I took no small comfort in that.

This stranger’s voice was shot, only a raspy voice was left. A part of me wondered if he used to be a singer and it was ruined that way … but I quickly pulled in all my senses to focus on the here an now.

I was so uneasy now, and stood up. the stranger and his companion lady said a few things that did not seem relevant to me, and I was hoping they were leaving.

Or that I would wake up.

My tension mounted as the woman took her leave, and I glanced across the room, hoping that the man I had been visiting with moments before this all started could somehow read my mind and somehow know something was very wrong here. I’ve had stranger dreams that this, so why not a mind-reading, this time?

My heart sank. He was gone. And I was alone with this stranger. It’s clearly time to wake up. Any time now.

But I couldn’t. Evidently this was real.

Now I was really scared.

I scarce could track what was being said as my heart raced. Fear overtook most of my rational thoughts. The man stood between me and the door. My weapons were in my cloak. I doubted I could remember a single songspell, let alone what they did.

I was out of options, except for my wit, and that was failing me, fast.

I am not quite sure what it was that happened to make the man talk about going out to hunt something down, but … he did, and I lived through the puzzling ordeal.

A dreadful, creepy unease still filled me once he was gone. Which, come to think of it, would have filled me if it had been a dream and I woke up from it.

But … there’s a whole safety in knowing a thing was a dream…
