A Small Taste of Home

(10 Eorgaen 5114: The Landing)

I was still under the Tree in Town Square after Gingie shared Colors with a bunch of us. This time her colors were light greens. They were oh, so gorgeous.

The evening sky was that indescribable combination of indigo above and a glowing gold at the horizon. That somehow, some reason only the Gods know themselves, does not muddle into weird colors between the two. Mister Jeril asked to hear a song.

I suddenly felt like every eye was on me, and this was some sort of test. Rather like when Mother asked me to share something with Father. My first inclination was to look for a hole in the ground and disappear. Since that was not an option for me, I put on my best face, pulled out my mandolin, and sang my new song. As if I were not a trembling bunch of nerves.

And I performed it right there in Town Square, probably the busiest spot in the entire city. I am pretty sure that decision, alone, qualified me to a visit to see a healer about the questionable state of my mental.

By the time the chorus started, I was in the moment of the song, and all memory of nervousness was fading. This is such a special song, born from a place of love and dedicated to all of the people who had made my journey to the Landing such a time of wonder and fun. My heart was near to bubbling over at the end of the first chorus, and I now belonged to the song.

At the exultant climax to the song, I knew I nailed it, and was so grateful I managed to pull it off. I took my curtsy, and looked up at my impromptu audience. Some clapped, some offered their congratulations, and then two amazing things brought tears to my already misty eyes. (Oh, I hope nobody noticed.)

Mister Jeril, and then Mister Crux, sweetly kissed me on the cheek. For a moment, I felt like I was at home, surrounded by the loving approval of my family.

Which gave me the courage to offer up the second song a bit later.
